Aldara Cream (imiquimod) activates your immune system to help your body fight certain skin diseases, including actinic keratosis, superficial basal cell carcinoma, and external genital warts.
Aldara side effects mostly comprise skin reactions which are mild to moderate. Minor side effects associated with aldara cream (like redness in the area under treatment) are said to be the sign of immune system response to the aldara cream.
Local Aldara side effects: irritation, redness, pain, soreness, stinging feeling like being stung, the eruption of red bumps on the body, a burning feeling at the area of cream application, flaking - local wearing of the skin (flaking), a common aldara side effect, tenderness - pain is experienced when the area under treatment with aldara cream is touched, one may feel itchy or wanting to scratch the skin is a another common aldara cream side effect, blisters on skin - a rare aldara side effect showing up as skin eruptions filled with some kind of fluid (small bubbles under the skin), hypo pigmentation - some patients have said to notice change in skin color in area where aldara cream is applied. Color of the skin goes lighter on the warts or the skin around the genital warts or perianal warts.
